ARLINGTON, VA—Americans for Prosperity’s Chief Government Affairs Officer Brent Gardner made the following statement today regarding the Senate’s failure to pass the Prevent Government Shutdowns Act. The amendment fell largely on Party lines, receiving a bipartisan majority vote (56-42) but failing to reach the 60-vote threshold needed to pass.
“The Senate chose dysfunction by not passing the Prevent Government Shutdowns Act. The Prevent Government Shutdowns Act is a commonsense step to take shutdown crisis scenarios off the table once and for all and get back to focusing on passing good policy. With another possible shutdown just around the corner, the House of Representatives should waste no time passing this legislation and returning it to the Senate for another vote. There’s no reason Washington should continue this crisis-to-crisis governing that always puts our country in lose-lose situations. Bidenomics is causing enough economic pain to American families.”
The Prevent Government Shutdowns Act, led by Sen. James Lankford (R-OK) and Sen. Maggie Hassan (D-NH), along with Rep. Jodey Arrington (R-TX) and Rep. Jimmy Panetta (D-CA), is a simple way to prevent the crisis-to-crisis shutdown scenarios we see every year. For more on this bill, see Sen. Lankford break down this solution to stop shutdowns on the American Potential podcast.
