Bill to Help Terminally Ill Wisconsinites Clears Key Senate Committee, Moves to Full Senate

MADISON, WI – Americans for Prosperity-Wisconsin today thanked Wisconsin State Senator Leah Vukmir, Chair of the Senate Committee on Health and Human Services, for approving landmark “Right to Try” legislation out of the Committee. AFP-WI will be launching a digital ad campaign in the coming days thanking Senator Vukmir and the bill’s authors Senator Terry Moulton and Representative Pat Snyder and encouraging Senate leadership to schedule a vote on the bill swiftly. The measure, Assembly Bill 69 and Senate Bill 84, would allow Wisconsinites who are battling terminal illness to access new experimental medical treatments that could save or improve their lives. The Assembly passed Right to Try last year and Senate passage would send it to Governor Scott Walker’s desk for his signature.

Americans for Prosperity-Wisconsin State Director Eric Bott made the following statement:

“We commend Chairwoman Vukmir and Vice-Chairman Moulton for their leadership in advancing this compassionate bill to give terminally ill Wisconsinites the chance to fight for their lives. The federal government’s current approval process for medical treatments for the terminally ill takes too long and is too encumbered by bureaucratic red tape. Suffering Wisconsinites and their families cannot wait any longer for Washington to get its act together so the state of Wisconsin must step up and let them try to save their lives. Our base of over 130,000 AFP-Wisconsin activists will be working in the coming days and weeks to encourage Senate Majority Leader Fitzgerald and Senate President Roth to schedule a vote on this humane bill post haste.”
