AFP-NC: Government Should Not Pick Winners and Losers

Today, AFP-NC State Director Chris McCoy responded to Speaker Moore and President Pro-Tem Berger’s announcement regarding changes to Job Development Investment Grant (JDIG):

“The changes announced by Speaker Moore and President Pro-Tem Berger recognize the need to provide more clarity around the Job Development Investment Grant (JDIG). However, the changes do nothing to address the massive discrepancy between taxpayer dollars going to Tier 1 counties and Tier 3 counties.”

“This year alone, Wake and Mecklenburg counties have received a disproportionately high number of incentive grants and Governor Cooper has given away more than $197 million in taxpayer dollars. Government should not dictate winners and losers in in the market. The best way to improve the economic outcome for all of our counties is to do exactly what we have been doing – keeping the corporate tax rate low so that all companies can take advantage of the benefits of doing business in the Tar Heel State.”
