AFP-MT: SCOTUS Hearings Announced, Sen. Tester Still Silent

Aug 10, 2018 by AFP

BOZEMAN, MT – The Senate Judiciary Committee announced today that it will conduct hearings on the nomination of Judge Brett Kavanaugh to the United States Supreme Court in early September. Montana Senator Jon Tester said that he “looked forward to meeting with Judge Kavanaugh” but has yet to set a meeting with the nominee. Senator Tester’s window to meet with Judge Kavanaugh is quickly closing now that a hearing date has been set.

“We thank Senator Grassley of Iowa for his work to make sure a qualified jurist is confirmed to the Supreme Court. Senator Tester’s colleagues, Senator Manchin and Senator Donnelly, will meet with Judge Kavanaugh; why won’t he?” said AFP-MT State Director David Herbst. “Senator Tester said he would ‘put politics aside and do what’s best for the nation.’ It’s time for him to do just that and confirm a qualified nominee to the Supreme Court.”

In early July, AFP-MT announced it would fully support Judge Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation to the Supreme Court. Judge Kavanaugh is a qualified jurist with a long track record of interpreting the law as written and not legislating from the bench. Americans for Prosperity-Montana activists have reached out to thousands of Montanans asking them to call Senator Tester and urge him to vote to confirm Judge Kavanaugh.
