AFP-MN Urges Governor Dayton to Sign Tax Conformity Bill and Provide Tax Relief for Minnesotans

Bill provides great opportunity to spur economic growth grassroots group says

St. Paul, MN – Americans for Prosperity-Minnesota (AFP-MN) on Wednesday commended the Minnesota legislature for passing HF4385, a tax reform package that provides a state income tax cut for Minnesota families and largely conforms with the reformed federal tax code. Today, the Senate passed the tax cut package that came out of conference committee. The House passed the same bill earlier this week. The bill now goes to the Governor for his signature.

Last week, AFP-MN launched a digital campaign urging Minnesotans to contact their legislators to support state tax reform.

“By passing tax reform, the legislature today set Minnesota on a new path to helping our communities grow and thrive. A friendlier tax climate will declare Minnesota “open for business” and foster economic activity throughout our state,” said Jason Flohrs, AFP-MN State Director. “This bill reduces state income tax rates for the first time in nearly two decades, putting more money back in the hands of Minnesota  families and job creators. We urge Governor Dayton to sign this bill into law, unleash our economy, and provide the tax relief Minnesotans need.”

Background:

Without specific action to address tax conformity issues, many Minnesotans would have faced both unintended state tax increases and greater complexity in the tax filing process due to the interaction with federal tax changes.

The tax cut package features the first state income tax rate cut since 2000.
