AFP-AZ Encourages the Senate to Vote on the FIRST STEP Act

Nov 15, 2018 by AFP

Phoenix, AZ – Yesterday, President Trump endorsed the bipartisan FIRST STEP Act, legislation that will reduce crime and recidivism, and make federal sentencing laws more just. Americans for Prosperity-Arizona (AFP-AZ) applauds this effort and continues its push forward on several legislative reforms to the Grand Canyon State’s criminal justice system.

AFP-AZ is a tireless advocate for removing barriers to opportunity for all Arizonans. The organization will have a major legislative focus on improving Arizona’s criminal justice system during the 2019 legislative session, with the hopes of adding onto Governor Doug Ducey’s previous steps in the direction of a smart on crime system. Specific policy priorities will be announced in the coming weeks.

AFP-AZ Field Director Chalon Hutson issued the following statement:

“Americans for Prosperity-Arizona applauds President Trump’s announcement and urges Senators to bring the FIRST STEP Act to the floor for a vote as soon as possible. This important legislative step will increase public safety by being smart on crime and soft on our taxpayers.”

“Our state is lucky to have the leadership of Governor Doug Ducey who has prioritized improving our criminal justice system and helping many formerly incarcerated rebuild their lives, both of which the FIRST STEP Act addresses at the federal level. AFP-AZ looks forward to championing several pieces of legislation during our upcoming session that will address other improvements to how our criminal justice system operates.”
