AFP–Montana Applauds Senate Leadership’s Tax Reform Proposal

HELENA, MT — Americans for Prosperity–Montana (AFP-MT) today announced its strong support for Senate leadership’s tax reform proposal, which advances one of Governor Greg Gianforte’s top priorities for his final legislative session: establishing a flat individual income tax.

These reforms move Montana toward a tax code built on fairness, growth, and equal treatment under the law—principles that have long defined both Montana and America.

AFP-MT State Director Jesse Ramos issued the following statement:

“Montana was built by people who worked hard, took risks, and expected to be treated equally under the law. Government should never punish success or pick winners and losers through the tax code. A flat tax means every Montanan plays by the same rules, rewards opportunity, strengthens our economy, and makes Montana more competitive.

“We look forward to working with Senate leadership and the Governor to secure these reforms and ensure the Governor’s legacy as Montana’s greatest tax reformer during his final session in office.”

AFP-MT Deputy State Director Henry Kriegel issued the following statement:

“A fair tax code doesn’t divide people into different classes or punish investment that creates opportunity. These reforms reflect Montana values: equal treatment and hard work. They’ll help attract more jobs, more investment, and greater prosperity for future generations. That is why securing a flat tax will be a top priority for AFP-MT in 2027’s session.”

Keeping Montana Competitive

Across the region, states are aggressively competing for jobs and investment. Idaho has adopted a flat income tax; Utah has successfully operated under one for years, and Wyoming continues to attract businesses with no state income tax. Montana cannot afford to fall behind.

AFP-MT urges the legislature to pass a tax package that lowers barriers to opportunity, treats taxpayers equally under the law, and positions Montana to compete and win for decades to come.
