ICYMI: AFP-Idaho State Director Applauds Sen. Crapo’s Record on Healthcare Affordability in Idaho Statesman Op-Ed

Jan 28, 2026 by AFP

Boise, ID — Americans for Prosperity–Idaho (AFP-ID) State Director Jason Lehosit applauded U.S. Senator Mike Crapo’s recent legislative record on healthcare affordability in a new opinion piece in the Idaho Statesman. Delivering quality, affordable healthcare for Idahoans is one of AFP-ID’s signature goals, and Lehosit commended Sen. Crapo for leading the way by helping write the Working Families Tax Cuts Act, which was signed into law in July and is working to undo the damage caused by Obamacare.

“In doing so,” Lehosit wrote, “he prevented the largest tax increase in American history from hitting Idaho families […] Idahoans would have faced a $2,500 tax hike, and Idaho could have lost 33,000 jobs. Additionally, the [bill] eliminates a trillion dollars in waste, fraud and abuse in the troubled Medicaid program […] without reducing benefits by a penny.”

The piece also notes Sen. Crapo’s work on the proposed Health Care Freedom for Patients Act. This bill, if enacted, would divert some of the funds Obamacare funnels to insurance companies directly to patients instead, sending the money straight into tax-free HSA accounts.

“Americans understand that the cost of living is too high and know it’s time for a new approach to bring down costs. Idaho’s senior senator has led the way, preventing the largest tax increase in American history and proposing real health care solutions.”
