Indianapolis, IN — Americans for Prosperity Indiana (AFP-IN) released the following statement in response to Governor Mike Braun’s State of the State Address, while also outlining its 2026 “Crossroads of Prosperity” legislative agenda as the General Assembly begins its work.
AFP-IN State Director Josh Webb issued the following statement:
“Governor Braun’s State of the State made clear that Indiana has a real opportunity to lead with bold, people-centered reforms that put affordability first. Hoosiers are feeling the squeeze from higher costs in housing, energy, and health care, and they deserve policies that lower costs and expand opportunity. AFP-IN agrees that there is a need to expand freedom, modernize government, and ensure families can keep more of what they earn while lowering the cost of everyday life. This session is about building on previous reforms and legislative wins and advancing real solutions that restore affordability, strengthen transparency, and drive growth across our state.”
AFP-IN’s priorities closely align with Governor Braun’s vision to expand opportunity, strengthen accountability, and make Indiana more affordable for working families. As Hoosiers continue to face rising costs in housing, energy, health care, and everyday essentials, this session presents an opportunity to build on recent reforms and advance policies that restore affordability and empower people to get ahead.
AFP-IN’s 2026 “Crossroads of Prosperity” legislative agenda focuses on the following priorities:
Tax Relief
To ensure Hoosiers keep more of their hard-earned money, AFP-IN supports permanent, broad-based tax relief, including income tax reductions that build on reforms passed in 2025 and property tax transparency measures rooted in AFP’s Property Tax Reform Playbook. These reforms are critical to easing cost-of-living pressures and making Indiana more affordable for families and retirees alike.
Energy Abundance
AFP-IN will continue supporting policies that promote affordable and reliable energy so Hoosiers are protected from rising utility bills and businesses can grow without passing higher costs on to consumers. Ensuring access to abundant domestic energy resources is essential to long-term economic growth and stability.
Regulatory Reform
Building on recent reforms, AFP-IN will push for stronger legislative oversight of major regulations, permit reform, reductions in occupational licensing barriers, and protections for property owners, home-based businesses, and entrepreneurs. Reducing unnecessary regulations is key to lowering prices, expanding housing supply, and making it easier for small businesses to operate without passing costs onto consumers.
Healthcare Personalization
AFP-IN will champion patient-centered healthcare reforms that expand choice, lower costs, and strengthen the doctor-patient relationship. This includes Direct Primary Care reforms, licensing modernization, and removing corporate and bureaucratic barriers to care, all of which help make health care more affordable and accessible.
Local Government Modernization
AFP-IN supports reforms that streamline government operations, expand transparency, and improve accountability at all levels of government to better serve Hoosiers and ensure taxpayer dollars are used efficiently.
