MONTPELIER, VT – Today, Americans for Prosperity (AFP) released a response to Governor Phil Scott’s State of the State address.

AFP Northeast Region Director Ross Connolly said:

“Governor Phil Scott’s State of the State address was dominated by his education reform, framing it as the state’s most urgent challenge. While we agree that the status quo in Vermont education is unsustainable for both students and taxpayers, spending taxpayer dollars on the old system will not solve the long-standing challenges.

“Education is the bedrock to ensuring future generations have the ability to self-actualize. AFP believes that to provide real reform, meaningful tax relief must be provided to Vermont families. The underlying problem must be addressed to remove the burden on property owners, not simply redistricting school districts. Tangible reforms that empower parents, ensure funding follows students, and reduce spending waste, while simultaneously keeping property taxes in check, will help families see results in both opportunities and affordability.

“We appreciate the Governor’s continued efforts to address Vermont’s biggest challenges and look forward to working together to find real solutions for Vermonters.”
