AFP Calls on Senators Murray and Cantwell to End the Longest Government Shutdown in American History

Seattle, WA — Today, as the government shutdown becomes the longest in American history, Americans for Prosperity (AFP) is calling on Senators Patty Murray and Maria Cantwell to put people over politics and support a clean continuing resolution to reopen the government.

Washingtonians are feeling the pain from this shutdown. Working families across the state are feeling the pain of partisan politics. AFP calls out Democrat leaders that have dug in their heels and pursued a strategy of using the American people as “leverage” for their political games instead of doing what’s right for the American people.

AFP Western Region Director Heather Andrews released the following statement:

“We have now endured the longest shutdown in American history – and Senate Democrats are to blame.

“Senators Murray and Cantwell have voted fourteen times against a clean resolution to reopen the government, despite backing the same measure thirteen times under Joe Biden.

“Washington families deserve better than being used as pawns in the Democrats’ political games. It’s time for Murray and Cantwell to stop betraying Washingtonians, stand up to their party leadership, and vote to end this shutdown today.”
