ICYMI: Americans for Prosperity-Florida Hosts Congressman Rutherford for Tax Policy Roundtable on Renewing the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act

Mar 21, 2025 by AFP

Jacksonville, FL – This week, Americans for Prosperity-Florida (AFP-FL) hosted Congressman John Rutherford (FL-05) for a tax policy roundtable focused on the urgent need to renew the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA). Local small business owners and community leaders joined the discussion to highlight how extending these pro-growth tax policies will foster economic opportunity and allow hardworking Floridians to keep more of their money.

The roundtable was part of AFP’s Protect Prosperity initiative, a nationwide effort advocating for the renewal of the TCJA, which have been highly successful in advancing economic prosperity across the nation. AFP-FL and Congressman Rutherford support tax policies that empower families, fuel small businesses, and strengthen the economy.

Congressman Rutherford underscored the importance of extending the TCJA to prevent tax hikes on families and businesses, ensuring that Floridians keep more of their hard-earned money.

Congressman Rutherford said the following regarding the importance of renewing the TCJA for small businesses:

“If we don’t pass this reconciliation bill now, what that will mean is a $4.5 trillion increase in taxes for citizens and businesses. That is not acceptable.”

“We want to make sure that the dollars we are spending are necessary.”

AFP-FL State Director Skylar Zander issued the following statement:

“Floridians have worked hard to build a strong economy — but without action, tax increases will put families and small businesses at risk. Failing to renew the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act would mean higher taxes, fewer jobs, and slower economic growth for Florida. We must prioritize policies that keep more money in the hands of hardworking Floridians and ensure that businesses have the resources they need to thrive. We appreciate Congressman Rutherford’s leadership in standing up for Florida’s small business owners and families.

“At AFP-FL, we are committed to working with lawmakers to renew the TCJA and fighting back against policies that threaten economic opportunity. Protecting prosperity means making sure individuals and businesses can continue to grow and succeed without the burden of excessive taxation and government overreach.”
