Senate Fulfills Its Duty – Now Congress Must Focus on Preventing Historic Tax Hike

ARLINGTON, VA— After an unnecessary prolonged debate, the Senate passed a funding bill, averting a disruptive government shutdown.

Brent Gardner, AFP’s Chief Government Affairs Officer, said:

“Americans for Prosperity (AFP) recognizes the Senate for getting the job done and rightfully ignoring the reckless partisan voices, keeping the government open and preventing a shutdown. The irresponsible idea to shutdown the government should have never been on the table to begin with. Now that this hurdle cleared, it is critical that lawmakers turn their full attention to preventing the largest tax increase in U.S. history- one that could cost families an average of $1,500 annually. Congress must prioritize making the Trump tax cuts permanent to ensure economic prosperity for millions of families”
