Washington Continues to Put Extreme Partisan Agenda Ahead of Addressing Real Challenges

Nov 4, 2021 by AFP

Arlington, VA – In response to reports that the House of Representatives intends to move ahead with votes today on a massive tax and spending package and an unprecedented expansion of the federal government, Americans for Prosperity President Tim Phillips issued the following statement:

“Earlier this week, we urged Washington to listen to the clear message voters across the country were sending. Now, Americans should pay close attention to the clear message Washington is sending back. Inflation is rampant, businesses can’t hire, supply chains are gridlocked, and Speaker Pelosi is prioritizing the dead-on-arrival partisan agenda of the most extreme and out-of-touch voices on the left.

“Americans didn’t sign up to have the federal government inserted into every aspect of their lives. Our organization has helped more than two and a half million people deliver that message directly to Congress. Senators Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema have rightfully stood up for the people of their states. They should continue to reject the deceptive and insulting gimmicks being used to coax their support.

“Our country is facing real challenges. These games need to stop. Americans are calling out for leadership and Washington is ignoring those calls. We intend to make sure those voices are heard.”

In late September, AFP partnered with YouGov on a national survey which showed that Americans favor scrapping the proposed spending package by a 47% to 33% margin. Specifically, Americans feared middle class tax hikes, increased inflation, and predicted special interests would see the bulk of the benefits.
