Schools of Innovation Bill Advances to Senate

Feb 4, 2021 by AFP

COLUMBIA, SC – Americans for Prosperity-South Carolina (AFP-SC) today commended the House for passing HB 3589, a bill that would give school districts the option to implement schools of innovation that provide more flexible ways to educate South Carolina students. The bill now heads to the Senate.

Schools of innovation are private-public partnerships with public school districts and private companies funding and operating the schools. These schools enable teachers to try novel education delivery methods and give greater autonomy to experiment with educational experiences that better fit students’ unique talents and abilities.

AFP-SC State Director Andrew Yates issued the following statement:

“Our education system was in need of reform even before the coronavirus hit. The one-size-fits-all model has not been working for students and families, prioritizing conformity and standardization over embracing the fact that every child is unique and different. We thank the House for empowering educators to innovate and create an education experience that is more individualized and personalized for our students. Senators should pass this bill without delay and open up more educational options that are better suited for South Carolina families and students.”
