SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – For the eighth year in a row a study from the American Legislative Exchange Council ranks Utah No. 1 on the list of states with the best economic outlook for the year ahead.
The annual report looks at 15 different factors including tax burdens, regulations, and labor policy to determine economic outlook for the coming year. Utah ranked first, followed closely by Idaho, North Dakota, Nevada, and Indiana. At the bottom of the list are New York, Vermont, and Illinois.
“On the heels of a productive legislative session, it’s great to see Utah top the list as the state with the brightest economic future,” said AFP-Utah State Director Heather Williamson. “But there’s more to do to ensure Utah stays number one. Tax reform will be on the table during the special session later this year. We encourage lawmakers to keep the principles of good tax policy top of mind and work to lower overall tax rates, remove exemptions, and keep spending under control. Let’s make sure Utah remains the best place to live, work and raise our families.”
