Smart on Crime: Raise Standards, Reduce Incarceration
AFP-FL supports Florida lawmakers coming together to modernize outdated felony threshold as a part of common-sense criminal justice reforms
Tallahassee, FL – Americans for Prosperity-Florida (AFP-FL), the state’s leading grassroots advocacy organization, is calling on Florida Senators to support S.B. 406 by Senator Jeff Brandes, a measure to bring the felony theft threshold in line with the majority of country. The current low $300 threshold, which has not been revised in over 30 years, undermines the intent of Florida statutes and does very little to positively impact public safety.
AFP-FL and its activists believe in a fair and responsible criminal justice system. The group sent a letter to members of the Senate’s Criminal Justice committee today.
“It’s time for Florida to modernize its criminal justice system,” said AFP-FL state director, Skylar Zander, “and that includes bringing our low and outdated felony threshold in line with the advances the rest of the country has made. We urge the Senate to come together to support common sense criminal justice reforms that will help Florida take similar strides made by other states.”
