Senate Passes Budget that Strengthens New Hampshire Advantage

CONCORD, NH – Americans for Prosperity-New Hampshire (AFP-NH) today commended the New Hampshire Senate for passing HB 1 & 2, the two-year budget. The budget includes substantial employer tax relief, Education Freedom Accounts, and reduces state spending.

Education Freedom Accounts would maintain the local contribution to education funding that makes up the majority of school budgets, but allow the state portion to support a child’s education in whichever learning environment they choose. The funds can be spent on textbooks, technology, special education services, tuition, and other education related expenses. The amount available would average about $4,600 per eligible child.

AFP-NH State Director Greg Moore issued the following statement:

“The Senate passed a tremendous budget that includes policies that give Granite Staters more opportunity and freedom, while ensuring spending levels are returned to a sustainable level.

“Not only does this budget help students and families by recognizing our education system should be built around the individual needs of every student, but it includes tax relief that is needed to help small businesses and employers get back up to full speed after the past year of economic hardship. We thank the Senate for passing this budget and urge the legislature to send a budget to the governor’s desk that prioritizes economic recovery, responsible spending, and reforms our outdated one-size-fits-all education model.”

Background:

AFP-NH has long advocated for employer tax relief and responsible spending. Employer tax relief and creating Education Freedom Accounts were priority issues in AFP-NH’s legislative agenda that was released at the outset of the session.
