ICYMI: Swing Voters Are “Souring on Socialism,” New Survey Finds

New York Post: Crucial swing voters troubled by DSA, new poll shows: ‘Souring on socialism’

WASHINGTON, D.C. – As the midterms approach, swing voters are turning against the far left. The New York Post reports on Americans for Prosperity’s latest “Americans Unscripted” report, which finds growing unease with the Democratic Socialists of America in key Senate battleground states heading into the November 3rd elections.

Key findings:

  • 56% of swing voters now view the DSA unfavorably, up from 50% in September.
  • 59% say the Democratic Party is controlled by the far left, up 9 points since September.
  • 82% favor personal freedom and free markets over more government control, up 6 points.

What AFP is saying:

“Swing voters are souring on socialism, and fast,” said AFP spokeswoman Katelyn Bledsoe.

What voters are saying:

Voters are skeptical of big-government promises. “Nothing is free,” Michael from Holland, Michigan, told an AFP volunteer. “There’s an agenda behind all these promises of free benefits.”

The bottom line: The report draws on conversations with 81,673 voters in eight states (Alaska, Iowa, Michigan, Montana, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Ohio and Wisconsin) from October 1–16. Voters want freedom, opportunity and lower costs, and they are rejecting the policies the far left is selling.
