ICYMI: Majority Leader Steve Scalise, AFP Call on Dems to End Shutdown in Tele-Town Hall

Nov 5, 2025 by AFP

Baton Rouge, LA – Yesterday, Americans for Prosperity–Louisiana (AFP-LA) hosted U.S. House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (LA-01) for a tele-town hall with constituents to discuss the ongoing federal government shutdown and its impact on Louisiana families.

During the discussion, Leader Scalise urged Senate Democrats to vote for a clean continuing resolution to reopen the government first and then negotiate their policy preferences later.

“The Democrats who are shutting the government down have not articulated why they’re holding the American people hostage. It’s like they’re throwing a temper tantrum,” Scalise told constituents on the call.

“Some radical extremists decided to shut the government down for their own political purposes. It’s having devastating impacts on a lot of really good people,” Scalise said, highlighting Louisiana’s 15,000 active-duty military members and other federal workers in the state who have missed paychecks.

After the tele town hall, AFP-LA State Director Scott Simon gave the following statement:

“This shutdown is the product of Chuck Schumer’s Senate Democrats putting politics over people. The livelihoods of Louisiana families should never be used as leverage in the Democrats’ political games.

“We’re grateful for Rep. Scalise’s leadership in voting for a clean funding bill to keep the government open and for calling out Democrats for using hardworking Americans as bargaining chips.”
