Lansing, MI – On Monday, Americans for Prosperity – Michigan (AFP-MI) hosted a tele-town hall in cooperation with Jack Baum of Americans for Tax Reform (ATR) and Representative Tim Walberg (MI-05). The discussion focused on the critical nature of renewing the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA) to prevent Michiganders from losing critical tax relief.

During the tele-town hall, Rep. Walberg, AFP-MI, and Baum discussed how the TCJA works for all Americans and how its expiration would impose a heavier tax burden on Michigan families and small business owners. A survey conducted during the discussion revealed an overwhelming number of Michiganders want to see the TCJA extended.

This town hall was part of AFP’s ‘Protect Prosperity’ campaign, which advocates for the renewal of the TCJA and amplifies the voices of lawmakers who champion pro-growth tax policies.

Rep. Walberg highlighted the need to extend the TCJA, stating:

“It is absolutely false that the TCJA only benefits the wealthy. If TCJA is not extended it will be a 22% tax increase across the board.”

AFP-MI State Director Tim Golding emphasized how the TCJA is critical for Michiganders, stating:

“The TCJA was a crucial step toward economic prosperity, and it’s essential that we build on that progress. Every day, small businesses, families, and hardworking Michiganders benefit from the TCJA’s tax relief. At AFP, we’re proud to stand by lawmakers like Rep. Walberg, who is fighting to protect prosperity in Washington and advance pro-growth policies to empower everyday Americans.”

Jack Baum reinforced the commitment to stronger tax policies, stating:

“We are working for simpler, flatter, and more transparent taxes.”
