ATLANTA, GA – Yesterday, Americans for Prosperity – Georgia (AFP-GA) hosted the second Day at the Capitol of 2024. During the event, activists met with lawmakers and advocated for education freedom, Certificate of Need repeal, and occupational licensing reform.
AFP-GA State Director Tony West released the following statement:
“We thank our grassroots activists who showed up and made our second 2024 Day at the Capitol event so successful. This legislative session is shaping up to bring pivotal policy reforms for education freedom and occupational licensing, and our grassroots engagement efforts are vital for our continued success as these bills advance through the legislative process.
“We urge the Senate to amend a House passed Certificate of Need reform bill to ensure all health care providers are included and all Georgians have better access to quality and affordable medical care.”
Background
AFP-GA hosted the first 2024 Day at the Capitol at the beginning of February. Since then, the group has continued to be an important grassroots leader under the Gold Dome.
In January, the Georgia Senate passed SB 354 that will reduce unnecessary occupational licensing burdens and bureaucratic red tape for blow-dry styling and makeup application providers.
At the end of February, the Georgia House passed HB 1339, a partial reform of Certificate of Need laws. AFP-GA has urged the Senate to amend this bill to include all health care providers, including birthing centers.
