Americans for Prosperity has dispatched “Town Criers” across the country with a goal of inspiring more than 100,000 people to read the Declaration of Independence out loud by July 4th.
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Fox & Friends’ Brian Kilmeade interviewed Americans for Prosperity spokesperson Katelyn Bledsoe at the Great American State Fair, where a town crier read the Declaration of Independence as part of AFP’s Declaration Project. This project is about reflecting on the founding principles of the Declaration of Independence – dignity, freedom, opportunity, rule of law, limited government, and civic duty – and how these principles will carry us into another 250 years of prosperity.
Bledsoe highlighted the Declaration’s enduring, nonpartisan principles, encouraged Americans to read the nation’s founding document ahead of its 250th anniversary, and emphasized the importance of preserving the ideals of liberty that have shaped America since 1776. The Declaration Project is a key part of AFP’s larger “One Small Step” initiative, which celebrates America’s 250th anniversary by helping Americans reconnect with the timeless principles that have united our nation since its founding.
The foundational idea behind “One Small Step” is that every major leap or event that changed history was started by one simple action. By this Independence Day, AFP will surpass 10 million “Steps for Freedom” since last July 4, exceeding the goal set last year. A Step for Freedom is any action that advances freedom and opportunity—from knocking on a neighbor’s door, signing a petition, and writing a letter to a lawmaker to participating in a town hall, attending a One Small Step event, or taking other meaningful civic action.
Through our One Small Step initiative, we’ve also reached more than 17 million Americans and welcomed more than 5,000 participants to One Small Step events across the country this year, with additional events planned through the end of the year.
