BIG RAPIDS, MI — Americans for Prosperity-Michigan (AFP-MI) and Concerned Veterans for America-Michigan (CVA-MI) hosted Rep. John Moolenaar (MI-02) for a veterans roundtable in Big Rapids yesterday. Veterans and military families joined the roundtable with the congressman discussing the Working Families Tax Cuts, which he voted to make permanent, and why veterans in rural Michigan still cannot reliably get care close to home.
AFP-MI State Director Tim Golding issued the following statement:
“Veterans in this part of the state aren’t asking Washington for anything complicated. They want to keep more of what they earn and they want to see a doctor without driving two hours or waiting two months. The Working Families Tax Cuts handle the first part, and Rep. Moolenaar deserves credit for making them permanent. The second part is unfinished business. When a veteran qualifies for care in his own community, the VA should not be the reason he doesn’t get it.”
The roundtable was built around the tax cuts, and it did not end there. Attendees raised the Take Care of America’s Veterans Act, the package of more than 60 bipartisan bills covering veterans health care, education, transition assistance, caregiver support, and survivor benefits. AFP-MI and CVA-MI are calling for the House to bring the bill back to the floor when Congress returns in September and send it to the president’s desk.
