ICYMI: 500 AFP-TX/LIBRE Activists Rally at State Capitol for Education Freedom
AUSTIN, TX – Americans for Prosperity-Texas (AFP-TX) and its sister organization, The LIBRE Initiative, mobilized nearly 500 activists and volunteers to Austin on Tuesday to voice their support for historic legislation that would create Education Savings Accounts (ESAs) in Texas.
Grassroots activists from every corner of Texas met with lawmakers, signed their names in support of the bill (H.B.3), and testified before the House Committee on Public Education.
AFP-TX and LIBRE also met with Texas Governor Greg Abbott and House Speaker Dustin Burrows at a lunch event with the Texas Public Policy Foundation, where the governor thanked our activists for their tireless commitment to education freedom.
Genevieve Collins, AFP-TX State Director, gave the following statement:
“We brought together our grassroots army to show lawmakers that support for school choice isn’t just a statistic – it’s real families in every corner of the state who want brighter futures for their children. AFP-TX and LIBRE did what only we can do – connect everyday families with their leaders to demand action at this pivotal moment for the education freedom movement.”
Daniel Garza, founder and president of The LIBRE Initiative, issued the following statement in support of ESAs:
“After years of hard work, Texas is one step closer to having increased school choice and educational freedom through Education Savings Accounts (ESAs). For far too long, Texan families – including Hispanic families, were hamstrung in their ability to choose an educational setting that worked well for their children. Now, thanks to the great work of Speaker Burrows, Governor Greg Abbott, and dozens upon dozens of Texas state lawmakers, Texas is on the brink of enacting the biggest ESA program in the country.
“On behalf of LIBRE activists and volunteers across Texas, we are thrilled to take this important step to support ESAs.”
