Grassroots group urges Governor Sununu to ensure students can have greater educational opportunities

CONCORD, NH – Americans for Prosperity-New Hampshire (AFP-NH) today expressed disappointment after the House voted to reject educational opportunity and kill the Learn Everywhere Initiative by voting to concur with the Senate changes to HB 1454. The bill blocks Learn Everywhere, a program approved by the NH State Board of Education that would allow students to receive credit for completed Learn Everywhere courses, which prioritize work-based learning, for at least 30 percent of their graduation requirements.

Deputy Director of Grassroots Operations Sarah Scott issued the following statement:

“Blocking the Learn Everywhere program denies students the opportunity to learn outside of the classroom and develop skills they’ll need to pursue their career choice. Especially now, restricting additional education opportunities and avenues does a disservice to Granite State students who might learn more effectively with real world, hands-on experiences.

“It’s disappointing to see our state regress behind states like Mississippi that passed a similar law to reject educational opportunities for students and educators. We urge the governor to veto this resolution and ensure Granite State students and families aren’t restricted to a one-size fits all approach to education.”

Background:

The New Hampshire legislature passed legislation to allow the Learn Everywhere program in 2018. This year, the House passed HB 1454 which was then amended by the Senate and sent to the House today for a concurrence vote.
