COLUMBIA, SC – Americans for Prosperity-South Carolina (AFP-SC) today announced a statewide ad campaign against a proposed $51 million bailout to the state Department of Commerce to repay on old loan to Palmetto Railways.
AFP-SC is running a statewide digital ad that connects South Carolinians to their lawmakers to urge their opposition to this latest tax giveaway. The grassroots group is also running newspaper ads to educate South Carolinians on this proposal and help connect them with their lawmakers.
AFP-SC Interim State Director Candace Carroll issued the following statement:
“Taxpayers should not be forced to a bail out a state government agency, especially when many South Carolina families are struggling due to the effects of the government’s response to COVID. We must eventually say enough is enough.
“We’re pleased legislators have called into question the benefits of this project. Lawmakers should not put the state in even more debt to enrich a state agency that’s proven to prioritize corporate giveaways and mismanage our hard-earned tax dollars.”
