AFP-WI Hails Badger State’s First-In-The-Nation Regulatory Reform

MADISON, WI – Americans for Prosperity-Wisconsin made the following statement after Governor Scott Walker signed the first-ever state version of the Regulations from the Executive in Need of Scrutiny (REINS) Act into law.

“Today Governor Walker and Wisconsin once again showed conservative reformers across America how to get the job done,” said AFP-WI State Director Eric Bott. “The REINS Act will bring accountability to the regulatory process by giving our elected officials the final say on regulations issued by unelected bureaucrats. Overregulation costs Wisconsinites billions of dollars each year and makes it much harder to start and grow a small business in our state. The REINS Act will protect jobs, spur economic growth, and attract new business investment to Wisconsin. Moreover, Gov. Walker is to be commended for doing something leaders rarely do: acknowledging the executive has become too powerful and restoring power back to the people where it belongs.”

BACKGROUND:

Just this week, the Mercatus Center at George Mason University released an analysis of regulations in Wisconsin and found the Wisconsin Administrative Code contains 159,253 restrictions, 12 Million Words, and would take an individual 17 Weeks to read in its entirety.

AFP-WI State Director Eric Bott recently penned an op-ed for Forbes highlighting the need for the REINS Act to reduce the regulatory burden on Wisconsinites.
