CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Americans for Prosperity – West Virginia (AFP-WV) announced today they have hired additional staff to support their ever-growing capabilities in the Mountain State. Since 2014, AFP-WV has played a crucial role in identifying and electing principled candidates, as well as pushing for significant policy changes at the state and federal level. Because of the groups grassroots driven action to elect principled leaders and rapidly advancing policies that are proven to make West Virginia a better place to live, work, and raise a family, West Virginia has enjoyed several tremendous policy victories, including the passage of the groundbreaking Hope Scholarship, historic tax cuts, and enactment of the state’s Right to Work law.
The organization has promoted Tyler Henry to the role of Deputy State Director. Tyler will focus on managing the day-to-day operations of the chapter, government affairs, and expand the organization’s communications capabilities. He has served AFP-WV in various roles since 2017 and was a key contributor to myriad policy and political victories for the chapter.
AFP-WV has tapped Alex Vaughn to serve as its Director of Grassroots Operations. Alex will oversee the continued growth of AFP-WV’s field staff and signature grassroots efforts across the state. A well-known quantity in West Virginia politics, prior to joining the organization Alex served as a Field Representative for U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito, on multiple congressional campaigns, and in roles at the West Virginia Republican Party.
Finally, Austin Gessel has been selected as AFP-WV’s Grassroots Engagement Director in Southern West Virginia. Austin will own the group’s grassroots organizing efforts in the area, so be on the lookout for him in your community! He previously served as a Special Assistant to Attorney General Patrick Morrisey.
“Make no mistake—our state is at a historic crossroads,” said Deputy Director Tyler Henry. “We can either accept the status quo, or we can double down on rapidly creating jobs, growing the economy, and helping every West Virginian thrive. AFP-WV refuses to accept the status quo. Instead, we’ll amplify our fight for the common-sense policy solutions and principled policy champions that will make sure we take the path to prosperity instead of the path to mediocrity.”
“West Virginians deserve the freedom to find their version of the American Dream,” said Director of Grassroots Operations Alex Vaughn. “Policymakers have done significant work to afford them that opportunity which should be commended. However, much more work remains to gain an economic edge over neighboring states through transformational, lasting policy change. That’s why I’m excited to join the team at AFP-WV. No other organization is doing more to quickly enact reforms that make West Virginia a better place to live, work, and raise a family.”
