“Once someone has left the criminal justice system, it is imperative they are able to find a job and support themselves.”
COLUMBIA, SC — Americans for Prosperity – South Carolina (AFP-SC) today praised the House L.C.I. Business and Commerce Subcommittee for advancing HB 3605. The full L.C.I. Committee will now consider the bill, which would prohibit the state from denying an occupational license based solely or in part on a prior criminal conviction.
AFP-SC State Director Candace Carroll released the following statement:
“Once someone has left the criminal justice system, it is imperative that they are able to find a job and support themselves. One in five jobs requires a license from the government, providing another hurdle for South Carolinians looking to start a career, most especially those who are seeking to start over. The Speaker has been a leader on this issue in the House, and I thank him for his commitment to ensure all South Carolinians have a fair shot at success.”
