SIOUX FALLS, SD – Americans for Prosperity-South Dakota (AFP-SD) today launched a direct mail and digital advertisement campaign to thank lawmakers who supported a smarter criminal justice system by preserving presumptive probation during this year’s legislative session. The direct mail and digital advertisements come as part of a national, six-figure effort highlighting criminal justice progress across 10 states in celebration of Second Chance Month.

AFP-SD State Director Don Haggar released the following statement:

“Presumptive probation breaks barriers for South Dakotans and allows people who committed low-level offenses to rehabilitate their lives. We applaud our lawmakers for their efforts to ensure our justice system is smart on crime and soft on taxpayers.”

Background:

Americans for Prosperity-South Dakota worked closely with the American Civil Liberties Union of South Dakota (ACLU-SD) during legislative session to oppose Senate Bill 19, which sought to overturn presumptive probation.
