Columbus, OH — Today, Americans for Prosperity-Ohio (AFP-OH) announced endorsements for two Ohio Senate candidates and ten Ohio House of Representatives candidates for the general elections on November 5, 2024. These endorsements come after 14 AFP-OH endorsed candidates won their primary races in March.
AFP-OH Deputy State Director Tim Ross released the following statement:
“We are thrilled to announce our support for 12 great candidates for the Ohio House of Representatives and Ohio Senate. These individuals are eager to move beyond the status quo to make the Buckeye State bolder and better. While Ohioans are enduring the current cost-of-living crisis, we look forward to engaging with voters to illustrate how these policy champions will bring common sense solutions to our state.”
AFP-OH Endorsed Candidates:
SD 06 Charlotte McGuire
McGuire, a longtime community leader and State Board of Education member, stands out for her experience and passion for education. She is a strong supporter of education reform and an advocate for expanding educational opportunities. She is aligned with major economic policy and supports reducing spending, cutting taxes, and improving regulatory reform.
SD 18 State Sen. Jerry Cirino
Cirino, a key ally on both the Finance Committee and the Ways and Means Committee, is a leader in advancing economic reforms. He has co-sponsored numerous tax cut bills and is champion of budgetary issues. He also has a strong legislative record in advocating for healthcare and occupational licensing reforms, as well as championing veterans’ issues.
HD 04 Jason Allevato
Allevato, a first-time candidate, is a strong advocate for policy. With a background in finance and law, he is running on a platform of fiscal responsibility, advocating for tax reductions and targeted budget cuts. He also shares AFP-OH’s philosophy that government should minimize interference and supports expanding education choice, flexibility, and educational opportunities.
HD 10 Brian Garvine
Garvine is a strong advocate of key Buckeye Blueprint policy initiatives that will move Ohio from middle in the mid-west to number one in the nation. Passionate about education, he supports expanding educational opportunities. Additionally, he champions economic issues, calling for the elimination of the Ohio income tax and the reduction of business-harming regulations.
HD 23 Tony Hocevar
Hocevar, an Army veteran and Slovakian immigrant, will be a key addition to AFP-OH’s policy coalition-building efforts. He strongly supports large-scale tax reforms, advocates for educational opportunities, and is a champion of veterans’ issues.
HD 27 Curt Hartman
As an experienced attorney, Hartman shows great promise with policymaking. He is strongly aligned with AFP-OH priorities on regulatory reform and will leverage his legal expertise to understand existing regulations and effectively craft new legislation.
HD 31 State Rep. Bill Roemer
Roemer stands out for his tireless work on behalf of his constituents. He collaborates closely with AFP-OH and other key legislative partners on tax and spending reforms. As Chair of the Ways and Means Committee and with his background as a CPA, Roemer is a trusted voice for fiscal responsibility and a leader on tax issues.
HD 35 State Rep. Steve Demetriou
Demetriou has been a proven partner on taxation and spending issues. Leveraging his private sector business experience to champion fiscal stewardship in Columbus. Additionally, he has been instrumental in supporting AFP-OH’s efforts to expand educational opportunities, including supporting the AFP-backed Backpack Bill.
HD 44 State Rep. Josh Williams
As a freshman lawmaker, Williams has been a passionate advocate for education policy reforms, working closely with AFP-OH on major legislation, including the AFP-backed Backpack Bill, to expand school choice and opportunity. As Vice Chair of the Criminal Justice Committee, he has partnered with AFP-OH in pushing for expungement, sentencing, and policing reforms. He also stands out for his work on economic issues, backing tax cuts and spending reform.
HD 59 Tex Fischer
Fischer, a former political consultant appointed to serve as the representative for HD-59 following his predecessor’s departure, is a committed champion of key issues such as eliminating the state income tax, expanding school choice, and cutting regulations.
HD 60 State Rep Brian Lorenz
Lorenz, a first-term legislator, is a positive voice for major economic reforms focused on fiscal responsibility, tax cuts, and regulatory reforms. Veterans’ issues are very important to him, and he sponsored legislation to expand benefits for military families. Additionally, Lorenz supports unleashing economic opportunity in central Ohio and is an advocate for health care and education.
HD 64 State Rep. Nick Santucci
Santucci is a highly active legislator who has built strong policy coalitions. He has been a key voice on health care issues, sponsoring and voting for legislation to reduce costs and expand access. Engaged with several AFP events, he is a champion of economic policy and supported efforts to reduce spending.
