Leading grassroots group supports controlling government spending, property tax reform

LINCOLN, NE – Americans for Prosperity-Nebraska (AFP-NE) today reacted to Governor Ricketts’ State of the State address, in which he called for property tax relief and keeping the rate of spending growth to 3.1 percent.

“Governor Ricketts’ budget proposal lays the groundwork for the start of a promising year. This budget protects taxpayers by limiting spending while fully funding state aid to schools, Initiative 427, and providing funding for property tax relief,” said Jessica Shelburn, AFP-NE State Director. “Controlling spending ensures our government lives within its means, as everyday Nebraskans do.”

“We are committed to working with the governor and senators on policies that help people improve their lives,” Shelburn continued. “Cutting regulatory red tape, controlling spending, and enacting tax relief will help increase economic growth and opportunity for Nebraska’s workers, families, and businesses. We will work to bring lawmakers together and create long-term solutions for our state that helps all Nebraskans reach their potential.”

AFP-Nebraska also released its 2019 state legislative agenda, laying down markers for the new legislature on important issues. The group looks to continue its work on increasing economic freedom and opportunity, patient-centered health care, and eliminating corporate welfare. The group is also expanding into criminal justice reform at the state level, which it has not historically been heavily involved.
