Americans for Prosperity Launches National Campaign to Answer the Rising Pitch of Socialism

New playbook, paid media, and a 50-state grassroots network to counter rent control, government grocery stores, and single-payer healthcare.

ARLINGTON, VA — Rent is up. Groceries are up. Calls to abolish everything from the Senate to the Supreme Court. A new generation of politicians, led by New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani and the Democratic Socialists of America, is selling socialism as the fix. Later this week in Chicago, socialists will convene to come up with more ways to make Americans dependent on government. Americans for Prosperity (AFP) is answering with FightSocialism.com, a national campaign that pairs a fact-based education effort with paid advertising and a 50-state grassroots network built to make the case for freedom and opportunity in the places the debate actually happens: kitchen tables, town halls, and community meetings.

“Families are feeling real pressure, and the socialist wing of American politics has an easy answer: hand more of your life to the government and trust it to sort things out,” said Katelyn Bledsoe, AFP Vice President of External Affairs. “In New York, they are already putting their plans into action planning city-run grocery stores and enacting a rent freeze. Our answer is different. FightSocialism.com gives reporters, policymakers, and everyday Americans the facts and the alternatives, before that pitch costs them their home, their doctor, or their paycheck.”

What the campaign puts in people’s hands

At the center is the Fight Socialism Playbook, a grassroots guide built around the fights Americans are already having, over housing, groceries, and healthcare. Each section walks through three things:

  • What socialists are proposing.
  • Why it has failed, everywhere it’s been tried.
  • What a free-market alternative delivers instead: lower costs, more choice, more ownership.

Paid advertising will carry the message to audiences directly. A grassroots education effort will train activists to make the case in their own communities, on the doors and in the conversations where opinions actually move.

“Our activists are in our communities every day, bringing everyday Americans the policy solutions we need to thrive and shutting down the push for socialism,” said Kent Strang, AFP Managing Director. “We refuse to sit back while radical ideas like rent control, government grocery stores, and single-payer healthcare take root. The Fight Socialism Playbook puts facts and policy ammunition directly into the hands of our grassroots leaders, empowering them to fight back, expose the dangers of government control.”

A firsthand account of what socialism costs

As part of the launch, AFP will host five free virtual events featuring Daniel Di Martino, an economist who fled socialist Venezuela as a teenager. Di Martino will share what socialism actually looks like for the people living under it.  Dates and registration will be announced at FightSocialism.com with four regionally focused events and one geared toward a national audience.

“Americans for Prosperity is leading the battle to keep America free by training Americans across the country on how to defend it,” said Di Martino. “Today like in decades past, the answers to our problems is not more government control but less of it. It is not enough to say we oppose socialism, we must counter with a bold free market agenda that tackles the issues people have. AFP is coming forward with exactly that.”

An All-Hands Effort AFP is leading the campaign with two partners:

  • The LIBRE Initiative, the nation’s premier grassroots organization empowering the Hispanic community through economic freedom and limited government, will elevate the stories of families who escaped socialist and communist regimes.
  • Concerned Veterans for America (CVA), a veteran-led movement for a freer and more secure country, will remind Americans what the freedoms we take for granted are actually worth.

“This comes down to one choice,” Bledsoe said. “Hand your freedom to a government that promises to take care of you,or keep it and build the life you want. People’s cost concerns are real. But we can’t let politicians exploit that anxiety and talk Americans out of the freedom that built the strongest, most prosperous country in human history.”
