Baton Rouge, LA—Yesterday, Americans for Prosperity–Louisiana (AFP-LA) applauded Governor Jeff Landry for signing the tax reform bills from special session into law which would flatten the individual income tax rate to 3%, move the corporate income tax rate to 5.5%, and eliminate the franchise tax, among other provisions. AFP-LA highlighted how these laws move Louisiana forward from a complex, burdensome tax code to a policy that is flatter and simpler, unleashing growth, removing barriers to opportunity, and driving transformative change.
AFP-LA State Director, Scott Simon, released the following statement:
“Thanks to the work of our legislators and Governor, Louisiana is on a new path forward that will transform our state’s complex tax code and move to a more effective tax system that is simple, transparent, neutral, impartial, and predictable. The outcome of the special session ensures that Louisiana will become more competitive with our neighboring states, keeping our citizens and businesses invested well into the future.”
Background
Throughout the special session, AFP-LA hosted a series of telephone townhalls with Governor Jeff Landry and Secretary of the Department of Revenue Richard Nelson, reaching more than 20,000 Louisianans and discussing their concerns over taxes. AFP-LA also stood up an online resource to educate Louisianans on their potential savings with the tax reform passage and encouraged residents to take action by contacting their elected officials.
