SPRINGFIELD, IL—Today, Governor JB Pritzker delivered his State of the State address, outlining his legislative priorities for the 104th General Assembly. While Gov. Pritzker touched on some of Illinois’ pressing challenges, his fantasy-filled speech failed to mention the tremendous tax burden felt across the state, making Illinois the second highest in property taxes and outward migration.

Instead of focusing on small businesses and the crushing tax burden on entrepreneurs, Pritzker touted corporate welfare packages that are only available to his friends and favored industries.

AFP-IL State Director Jason Heffley released the following statement:

“Hardworking Illinoisans deserve pro-growth policies that empower them to pursue the American Dream. As it stands, Illinoisans face the highest tax burden in the nation, placing families and small business owners at an economic risk. Unfortunately, Gov. Pritzker lacked a real plan in his speech to ease the financial burden on Illinoisans.

“At Americans for Prosperity, we will continue to promote policies that foster education freedom, economic prosperity, and transparency in our government. We hope to work with Gov. Pritzker to make Illinois a better state–one where people are empowered to live, innovate, and learn.”
