Americans for Prosperity-Illinois Responds to Gov. Pritzker’s Budget Address

Feb 17, 2021 by AFP

CHICAGO, IL—Americans for Prosperity-Illinois (AFP-IL) today released a statement following Governor J.B. Pritzker’s biennial budget address. Pritzker’s proposal included a tax hike on Illinois families, small businesses, and a heavily reliance on federal assistance to cover for decades of poor fiscal management by the state government.

AFP-IL State Director Jason Heffley issued the following statement:|

“Governor Pritzker has learned nothing from his failed attempt to raise taxes in November—the people of Illinois think taxes are too high and proposing a billion dollar tax increase on small businesses in the middle of a challenging fiscal climate shows an utter lack of respect for taxpayers. Leaders need to lead, not simply propose different versions of tax increases or stick their hands out for federal bailouts when budgeting gets tough.”

AFP has always opposed the graduated income tax and engaged in both direct and grassroots lobbying to have November’s ballot amendment withdrawn.

Separately, Americans for Prosperity Action helped defeat the graduated income tax. Amendment on the ballot last November.
