ATLANTA, GA – Following the overwhelming passage of HB 1339, Americans for Prosperity – Georgia (AFP-GA) is urging the Senate to take action to ensure all health care providers are included in Certificate of Need reform.
AFP-GA State Director Tony West released the following statement:
“While we are grateful for today’s passage in the House, the bill still does not provide much-needed Certificate of Need reform for all health care providers. We urge the Senate to quickly consider and amend this legislation so that all Georgians have better access to quality and affordable medical care.
“We applaud Katie Chubb’s tireless journey as she has testified in front of lawmakers and shared her story on how CON laws have impacted families in Augusta. AFP-GA will continue to work closely with all lawmakers to ensure Certificate of Need laws are fully repealed.”
Background
Last November, the Senate Study Committee on Certificate of Need Reform recommended a full repeal of Georgia’s Certificate of Need laws.
Since last summer, Katie Chubb has been an outspoken advocate for repealing Certificate of Need in Georgia. In August, she spoke at a press conference in Augusta highlighting how CON has harmed her ability to open a birthing center. Tony West also published an op-ed in the Albany Herald highlighting Chubb’s story and how CON laws have been detrimental.
AFP-GA recently produced a short testimonial video highlighting Chubb’s story and State Rep. Lauren Daniel’s (District 117) efforts to repeal CON.
