ATLANTA, GA – Today, following bipartisan passage in the Georgia Senate to advance SB 354, Americans for Prosperity – Georgia (AFP-GA) applauds the vote and urges the Georgia House of Representatives to swiftly pass this legislation to reduce bureaucratic red tape and expand the number of family-supporting jobs.
AFP-GA State Director Tony West released the following statement:
“We are extremely grateful to see bipartisan support for this important piece of legislation that will reduce unnecessary occupational licensing burdens and create more jobs and better opportunities for Georgians.
“By exempting blow-dry styling and makeup application from expensive and overburdensome licensing laws, beauty professionals will have more freedom and success to operate their businesses in Georgia. We must ensure the Peach State remains the best place to live, work and raise a family.”
Background
Passed by a vote of 38-15, SB 354 exempts blow-dry styling and makeup application services from licensure and utilizes best practices from states that have already safely exempted these services from licensure.
AFP-GA has been a leader in calling for reform to Georgia’s occupational licensing requirements. This week, AFP-GA signed onto a coalition letter with four other organizations, including the Institute for Justice, the Georgia Public Policy Foundation, the Georgia Center for Opportunity, and the R Street Institute calling for lawmakers to support SB 354.
Last week, Tony West was on The Shelley Wynter Show to discuss how SB 354 will decrease occupational licensing burdens.
In December, AFP-GA called on the Georgia General Assembly to follow the Senate Study Committee on Occupational Licensing ten recommendations that would foster economic growth, reduce bureaucratic regulations, and invite all Georgians to reignite their American Dream.
