Albany, New York — Americans for Prosperity (AFP) commends Governor Kathy Hochul for announcing her intention to opt New York into the federal tax-credit scholarship program created under the Working Families Tax Cuts law, marking a major step toward expanding educational opportunity for families across the Empire State.
The program allows taxpayers to receive a federal tax credit for contributions to approved scholarship‑granting organizations, which can provide students with resources for a range of educational expenses.
AFP Northeast Region Director Ross Connolly said:
“Governor Hochul’s decision to support the federal tax-credit scholarship program is a win for New York families who deserve more educational opportunities and the freedom to choose the learning environment that best fits their child’s needs. For too long, countless students have been denied access to learning options that could better prepare them for success.
“This program will expand the menu of options for families by supporting scholarships for private education, tutoring, and other learning opportunities without taking away a parent’s ability to decide what is best for their children. AFP commends Governor Hochul and encourages neighboring states to follow New York’s example by empowering parents and putting students first.”
