“I can think of a lot of other ways to spend $1.3 billion of South Carolinians’ dollars.”
COLUMBIA, SC — Americans for Prosperity – South Carolina (AFP-SC) blasted the news of $1.3 billion in corporate incentives for EV manufacturer Scout, a record amount for the state. The package is roughly five times what was given to a separate company that last year made the single largest investment ever in South Carolina.
AFP-SC State Director Candace Carroll released the following statement:
“The government should not be in the business of picking winners and losers. Tax incentives for private businesses, whether that’s to build a new football stadium or a new manufacturing plant, are payouts from taxpayers themselves. This is an outlandish example of corporate cronyism. I can think of a lot of other ways to spend $1.3 billion of South Carolinians’ dollars.”
Last June, Governor McMaster vetoed over $50 million in budget earmarks, half of which was designated for just one project.
