Arlington, Va. – Americans for Prosperity (AFP), the nation’s largest grassroots organization, today applauded Congress for passing H.R. 115, The Midnight Rules Relief Act, introduced by Congressman Andy Biggs.
The Midnight Rules Relief Act enhances congressional oversight of federal agency rulemaking and strengthens Congress’s ability to rein in overreaching regulations. By expanding and streamlining the Congressional Review Act (CRA), this legislation empowers Congress to act decisively to eliminate harmful regulations issued by unelected executive branch bureaucrats.
Specifically, the bill allows multiple resolutions of disapproval to be considered at once and extends the retrospective review window to include regulations issued in the past 12 months.
AFP Chief Government Affairs Officer Brent Gardner commented:
“For too long, Congress has been handcuffed by cumbersome processes that limit its ability to serve as a check on the administrative state. The Midnight Rules Relief Act brings much-needed reform to the Congressional Review Act, allowing lawmakers to swiftly repeal harmful regulations that stifle economic opportunity for all Americans. Supporting this legislation is a critical step toward restoring Congress’s Article I authority to set policy and ensuring accountability in the rulemaking process.”
Passage of The Midnight Rules Relief Act will enable Congress and the incoming administration to reverse the damage inflicted by the Biden administration’s overreaching regulations, quickly respond to the nation’s cost of living crisis, and jumpstart economic growth.
Earlier this week, Americans for Prosperity issued a Key Vote Alert encouraging lawmakers to support The Midnight Rules Relief Act. AFP will include this vote in its annual legislative scorecard, which holds lawmakers accountable for their votes on policies that promote economic freedom and government accountability.
