RALEIGH, NC—Americans for Prosperity-North Carolina (AFP-NC) today applauds the North Carolina legislature for their recent passage of Senate Bill 562, the Second Chance Act, and calls on Governor Cooper to take quick action in signing the bill.
AFP-NC issued a key vote alert urging the full body to support the measure and leveraged its grassroots to encourage North Carolinians to contact their lawmakers regarding the bill. The grassroots group will now launch ads thanking Senators Britt, McKissick, and Daniel and Representatives Hardister, Morey, and Clemmons for their leadership in ensuring smart on crime, soft on taxpayers criminal justice reforms were prioritized this legislative session.
AFP-NC State Director Chris McCoy issued the following statement:
“Our activists are encouraged by the legislature’s efforts to pass the Second Chance Act, which will improve lives and make our communities safer. Ensuring North Carolinians have a real chance to start over – with a clean slate—and modernizing our justice system will have a meaningful impact on the Tar Heel state. We encourage Governor Cooper to swiftly sign this landmark, bipartisan reform into law.”
