Package of reforms would advance a Personal Option in health care that brings down prices, spurs competition, and gives Americans more control over their care.
Arlington, Va. – Today, Americans for Prosperity and The LIBRE Initiative announced its support for the newly-introduced Lower Costs, More Transparency Act.
This bipartisan legislation is a great first step toward making medical prices more transparent, so health care consumers can more easily shop for value.
Additionally, the bill saves money for taxpayers and patients by advancing site-neutral payments in Medicare through more transparent billing. Specifically, it prevents hospital-owned providers from charging patients more than physicians who practice independently. This means more choices, lower prices, and more competition – with hospitals less incentivized to acquire doctor practices.
“The Lower Costs, More Transparency Act shows that House Republicans are leading when it comes to providing more personalized health care options,” said Dean Clancy, senior health policy fellow at Americans for Prosperity. “Together with the AFP-endorsed CHOICE Arrangement Act, which passed the House in June, this new legislation is a great first step toward giving Americans what they want – lower prices, more choices, and greater control over their care. We urge Congress to pass this legislation swiftly.”
“The U.S. Hispanic community already experiences worse health outcomes compared to other Americans in part because they are less likely to receive preventative care. This is due to multiple factors including higher levels of poverty, meaning that some necessary care or treatment is often out of reach due to high costs. By increasing transparency, the Hispanic community can make more informed decisions around their health care. Transparency paired with increased competition means greater access to lower prices and ultimately better outcomes,” said Sandra Benitez, The LIBRE Initiative executive director.
Many of these reforms can be found in AFP’s Personal Option, a doctor-supported plan that makes health care more affordable, simple, and hassle-free.
