American For Prosperity – Minnesota Testifies on Bipartisan Public Safety Reform

May 4, 2021 by AFP

Today, Americans For Prosperity – Minnesota (AFP-MN) State Director Jason Flohrs testified in front of the joint House/Senate conference committee on the Public Safety Omnibus bill, highlighting key bipartisan provisions that AFP-MN has supported throughout the session. AFP-MN believes there should be urgency moving forward this session with criminal justice reforms that have bipartisan support.

Specifically citing the Rehabilitation and Reinvestment Act, re-entry identification and homelessness mitigation plans, court fines and fees, and asset forfeiture reform, AFP-MN voiced support for reforms that will help reduce recidivism, strengthen public safety, and improve reintegration efforts for individuals seeking a second chance.

In his letter, AFP-MN State Director Jason Flohrs wrote the following statement:

“At Americans for Prosperity, we believe an effective criminal justice system protects people and preserves public safety, respects human dignity, and removes barriers to opportunity for people seeking a second chance. A core function of our justice system is imposing accountability, but it should be done in a manner that ensures those being held accountable achieve restoration and never return to our justice system. To do this we must seek to incentivize – rather than inhibit – the success of those who have been held accountable through incarceration.”
