Appellate Court brings more due process, equal justice for state’s judicial system

Charleston, WV— Americans for Prosperity-West Virginia (AFP-WV) today announced its support for Senate Bill 275, a bill that establishes an Intermediate Court of Appeals. The grassroots organization has determined that the newest version of the bill language aligns with their vision for a more complete, fair, and predictable judicial branch of government in the Mountain State.

The group also announced it will be deploying paid digital and radio ads to supplement the grassroots engagement of its activists, connecting them with their lawmaker to voice their support of the bill.

AFP-WV State Director Jason Huffman Released the following statement:

“The proper role of the judiciary is to provide equal justice under the law. Our current court system fails at that end. If impeachment of the previous court taught us anything, the Supreme Court is too centralized and powerful. Their use of unsigned memorandum decisions is both unfair and insufficient from a legal perspective. Lawmakers should support this bill and follow what 41 other states have done in creating a modern court system with an intermediate appellate court. As our state Constitution outlines, an intermediate court will address these issues, ensuring every West Virginian is able to have their day in court.”
