SALT LAKE CITY – Americans for Prosperity-Utah (AFP-Utah) today shares support for Gov. Spencer Cox and Lt. Gov. Deidre Henderson’s directive to have all agencies to review their professional licensing requirements. Proponents of occupational licensing argue they help ensure public safety. Still, too often, they do little more than protect special interests from new competition and make it harder for individuals to build a career in their chosen field. The grassroots group has long been calling for reforms that break down barriers to employment and make it easier for individuals to get to work.
AFP-Utah State Director Heather Andrews issued the following statement:
“We are encouraged to see this long-overdue review taking place to accelerate the removal of overburdensome red tape that fails to improve safety but keeps people out of work. These regulations only dampen economic dynamism and hinder entrepreneurship by costing hardworking individuals unnecessary time and money to earn credentials that could be obtained through much simpler means such as on the job experience. On behalf of our activists, thank you Gov. Cox and Lt. Gov. Henderson, for pursuing these reforms that will allow for more Utahns to achieve the American Dream.”
