Utah legislature debates increasing sales tax
Salt Lake City, UT – Americans for Prosperity-Utah (AFP-UT) is calling on the members of the Utah Senate to scrap a plan to increase the sales tax. The increase would supposedly help fund the plagued Utah Transit Authority, which is currently operating with a two billion-dollar deficit.
AFP-UT State Director, Heather Williamson released the following statement:
“Taxpayers should not reward UTA with more of their hard-earned money. UTA has been poorly managed and now they want taxpayers to make the sacrifices they’re unwilling to make. Our local lawmakers should not support a massive tax hike on Utahns. We’ve already begun to see the benefits of federal tax reform and increasing the sales tax will hurt Utahns. We hope the Senate drops the proposal to increase the sales tax and instead focuses on ensuring taxpayers get to keep more of their money.”
