SALT LAKE CITY, UT – Today the Utah state House of Representatives unanimously passed legislation that would prevent more government red tape, and Americans for Prosperity-Utah (AFP-UT) urged the state Senate and Governor Spencer Cox to move the bill forward.
Similar to the REINS (Regulations from the Executive in Need of Scrutiny) Act in Congress, Utah H.B. 474 would make new regulations with high price tags – $1 million or more over five years – get a vote in the state legislature.
AFP-UT State Director, Kevin Greene, gave the following statement:
“We’re encouraged to see the state House pass this transformational legislation to ensure transparency and accountability in the state government. Utah taxpayers elect legislators, not bureaucrats, which is why those representatives should have the final say in any rule that will affect their lives.
“Utah is the best state to live in, and we want to make sure it doesn’t go the way of highly regulated states like California. AFP-UT and our grassroots activists will continue fighting for REINS this year until it’s signed into law.”
Background:
This year, AFP is fighting to pass REINS-style legislation in nearly two dozen states by unleashing its grassroots army to inform citizens in key regions, deploying targeted digital ads and mail campaigns, and connecting constituents with their elected representatives to demand regulatory reform.
