CONCORD, NH – Americans for Prosperity-New Hampshire (AFP-NH) today urged the House to give state retirees more flexible retirement options after they killed House Bill 629, which would have established a state defined contribution retirement plan for state and political subdivision members of the retirement system.
“This vote was a huge missed opportunity. We’ve seen other states’ core functions of government threatened by one-size fits all plans that result in massive unfunded pension liabilities. This bill would have been a big step toward ensuring New Hampshire is forever spared such an outcome,” said Greg Moore, AFP-NH State Director. “Aligning new employees state retirement plans with private sector 401k plans would have given employees more flexibility and control over their retirement savings, all while protecting the interests of taxpayers.”
